Electron Beam Physical Vapor Deposition

PG Technologies EBPVD

We offer electron beam physical vapor deposition (EBPVD) high-performance thermal barrier coatings for aeroengine turbine blades and vanes. PG Technologies’ thermal barrier coatings created using EBPVD technology provide fine columnar microstructures that are highly tolerant to lateral strain. Aero-engine and industrial gas turbine-sized components can be coated with this process.

EBPVD is a form of physical vapor deposition in which a target anode is bombarded with an electron beam given off by a charged tungsten filament under high vacuum. The electron beam causes atoms from the target to transform into the gaseous phase. These atoms then precipitate into solid form, coating everything in the vacuum chamber (within line of sight) with a thin layer of the anode material.

Automated application of our slurry coatings provides unsurpassed protection against aqueous corrosion and heat scaling, as well as erosion, abrasion and wear. Because the deposition process is relatively gentle, slurry coatings can be deposited not only on metals, but also on ceramics, glass and composites. Chrome-free slurry coatings that meet global environmental regulations are also available.

Platinum Aluminide

Our platinum aluminide coatings, applied via a diffusion process, provide exceptional oxidation protection for HP and LP turbine airfoils where additional environmental protection is needed. Platinum aluminide coatings also provide superior Type I and Type II hot-corrosion protection for marine and industrial gas turbines.

Thermal Spray

Metals, alloys, carbides, oxide and non-oxide ceramics, refractory metals, cermets (ceramic-metallics) and other materials can be deposited via our high-velocity air fuel (HVAF); high-velocity oxy fuel (HVOF); conventional or suspension plasma spray. Using a wide range of spray rates, our thermal spray coating processes can produce a wide array of coating thicknesses. Our uniform coatings can be applied to parts with complex geometries, and strong bonds withstand heavy mechanical loads.
