Praxair Surface Technologies Renovates High School Lab & Donates 3D Printers for its Technology Curriculum

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., August 29, 2019 – Praxair Surface Technologies (PST) unveiled the new TruFormTM Teaching Lab at Speedway High School. PST partnered with local vendors to transform an existing room into a 3D printing lab. The lab features new computers, collaboration furniture, three Polar Cloud enabled 3D printers, and a Polar Cloud premium account to be used in the school’s engineering technology curriculum.
PST and Speedway High School began their partnership in the fall of 2018 and quickly found they had a common goal to educate students on 3D printing capabilities while opening new doors for students interested in technology and engineering.
“The addition of the PST lab, along with the 3D printers, will allow our students to gain valuable skills and knowledge in a high-tech, fast-growing field,” said Principal Lucas Zartman. “The fact that PST is not only donating the tools that our students need, but are also committed to sharing their knowledge and expertise through personal relationships, will provide our students learning experiences which otherwise could not be attained in a traditional classroom or curriculum.”
When the fall semester kicked-off on August 1, students were welcomed by the new TruForm™ Teaching Lab. Students enrolled in the current engineering technology curriculum will utilize the printers in a variety of classes and to create parts for the evGrand Prix go-kart project held each year.
“The infinite capabilities of 3D printing will allow Speedway High School students to gain knowledge of industries that benefit from 3D printing and gain new insight on drafting and design applications,” said Joel Rieken, PST general manager for powders. “We are excited about this partnership and look forward to seeing the students in action.”
In addition to the lab, PST engineers are scheduled to visit the school throughout the year to assist with projects and provide additional education on the machines. Students will also tour PST’s Indianapolis campus, getting an inside look at their metal 3D printing capabilities.
